Choosing a gas log set
Gas logs are the simplest way to get the look of a wood fire without the work — but the first choice to make is vented or ventless. Vented sets give you the most realistic flame, and they need a working chimney to draw the exhaust out. Ventless sets don’t need a flue at all, so nearly all the heat stays in the room — which makes them wonderfully efficient, with a few rules about room size and where they can be installed. We’ll help you sort out which one suits your fireplace and your home. No pressure, just honest advice.
Vented or Ventless — What's the Real Difference?
Vented log sets burn with an open flame that vents up an existing chimney, giving you the most realistic look and movement. Ventless sets burn cleaner and keep nearly all their heat in the room, but come with size and placement rules since they don't vent outside.
What Does "Bedroom Approved" Mean?
A bedroom-approved gas log set has met additional safety standards required for use in a sleeping area — not every ventless set qualifies, so this label matters if you're placing one in a bedroom.
Do I Need a Working Chimney?
Vented log sets require a functioning flue to draw the exhaust outside. Ventless sets don't need a chimney at all, which makes them a flexible option for fireplaces with a damaged or unused flue.
How Do I Size a Gas Log Set?
Measure your firebox width, front and back — many openings taper, so both measurements matter. We stock sets from 18" to 42" to fit a wide range of fireplaces.
Natural Gas or Propane?
Most of our log sets can be configured for either — we'll confirm which fits your home's existing setup.
