A see-through fireplace does something no ordinary fireplace can — it warms two rooms at once and turns a plain wall into the centerpiece of your home. Before you choose one, there are a couple of practical things worth knowing: the wall needs enough depth to hold the firebox, and how the heat divides between rooms depends on the model. We’ve installed these in living rooms, primary suites, and covered patios across the Ozarks, and we’re glad to walk your space with you and tell you honestly what will work.
What Wall Do I Need for a See-Through Fireplace?
See-through units require a wall deep enough to house the firebox — this is the most common practical blocker for homeowners considering one. We'll measure your specific wall before recommending a model.
Can I Add One to an Existing Wall?
Usually, yes — but it typically requires framing work to accommodate the firebox depth, rather than a simple drop-in installation.
How Does the Heat Split Between Rooms?
This varies by model — some units distribute heat fairly evenly, while others favor one side. We'll walk you through the specifics for whichever model fits your space.
Vented or Vent-Free See-Through — Which Fits My Home?
We carry both. Vented (direct vent) models exhaust outside for the cleanest indoor air; vent-free models skip venting entirely but come with room-size and placement considerations. See our Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces and Vent-Free Gas Fireplaces pages to compare.
Indoor or Indoor-Outdoor Use?
Some of our see-through models, like the Carol Rose series, are rated for indoor-outdoor use — perfect for connecting a living room to a covered patio. Others are indoor-only. We'll help you match the right one to your space.
Does a See-Through Fireplace Cost More Than a Single-Sided Unit?
Generally, yes — the dual-sided design and additional glass typically carry a premium over a comparable single-sided fireplace. We'll walk you through the real cost difference for the models you're considering.
